FRANK GALVEZ

Retired

American citizen, born in La Havana-Cuba, Galvez trained with the best ballet masters of his time. His professional debut was in 1968 with the Ballet of Teatro Lirico of La Havana, I.C.R Ballet, and then became the principal dancer of the worldwide famous show "Tropicana". Frank celebrated 60 years years of professional career at the time of his retirement. He left his country in 1975, and began international guest appearances performing around the world, visiting over 40 countries in 3 continents.

 

Frank Galvez's performing repertory includes roles in classical ballets Coppelia, Swan Lake, La Fille Mal Gardee, La Vivandiere, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, Diane and Acteon, The Flame of Paris, The Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Raymonda, and La Bayadere, as numerous contemporary pieces from renowned choreographers.

 

In 1979 Frank Galvez became the Ballet Master and Principal Character Dancer of the Ballet Teresa Carreno in Venezuela under the direction of Rodolfo Rodriguez and Salvador Itriago. Galvez accepted an invitation from the legendary Rudolf Nureyev to perform the role of "Von Rothbart" in Nureyev's Swan Lake touring 6 countries in 30 appearances. In 1986 Venezuela, Galvez founded "The New Company", a performing ballet company of 20 professional dancers, traveling the country and gaining much success. Frank Galvez has been a Ballet Master for the Danzas Tipicas de Maracaibo, Chamber Ballet of Zulia, Dance Theater West, Nevada Dance Theater, Ballet Concerto Company of Miami, and Ballet du Montpelier. He was Guest Ballet Master at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet Company summer program.

 

Galvez has created an extensive choreographic repertory.  Among other Frank Galvez's original choreographic pieces are Three Loves, Forbidden Dreams, Coppelius Fantasy, Carmen, Rite of Springs, Encounter, It's What We Feel, Symphonetta in Black & White, and the re-staging of original works such as The Good-humored Ladies, Capriccio Espagnol, and The Polovtsian Dances, as well as choreography for operas Semiramis and La Traviata, and television musicals and commercials. He has been Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer for Dance Theater West in Nevada, Ballet Nova in Florida, and Lexington Ballet Company in Kentucky.

 

Since 2003 Galvez has created an extensive line of choreographic works for the Galmont Ballet Centre for Dance Education and Youth Professional Company including his renowned original version of The American Nutcracker. Frank Galvez has been privileged to work with the finest.
